Fox cancelled the series after five seasons in May 2018.  After fans launched a social media campaign calling for a renewal, Goor announced that NBC had picked up the series for a sixth season comprising thirteen episodes 30 hours following the cancellation. In February 2019, NBC renewed the series for a seventh season, followed by an eighth season renewal in November prior to the airing of the seventh.
