Since then, a lot has occurred, from the Jerry Harris controversy to the worldwide pandemic that is still devastating communities all over the world. The effect current events have had on the squad are apparent in the second season of Cheer as the cheerleaders prep for the NCA & NDA Collegiate Cheer & Dance Championship and new recruits vie for a place on the mat.

The second season of Cheer, on the other hand, will have a confusing timeline for some viewers since the newest edition of this documentary series covers two years rather than one as in the previous season. Here's why there's an extended timeframe in the sequel.

Cheer season 2 timeline

Season 2 was reportedly filmed in January 2020, the same month as the previous season streamed and gained popularity. However, due to COVID-19 and the cancellation of the 2020 NCA & NDA Collegiate Cheer & Dance Championship, filming came to a halt.

Filming has not resumed at Navarro College and Trinity Valley Community College until September 2020, thus the new faces in the cast of the program. While there were COVID restrictions in place, filming was able to continue on an intermittent basis throughout the fall and winter.

April 2021 is the month in which the Navarro and Trinity Valley Cheerleaders compete at the championships to defend their title.

The series next time leaps forward to June 2022, when it catches up with a few main characters and gets an update on what they've been doing since the conclusion of the competition and end of school year.
